Hello All,
I watched a movie named Up in the Air sometime ago. John Clooney
plays a role of an agent that informs the employees of an organization about
their termination. This is mostly based on the downsizing of organizations
during recession. The movie shows how difficult it is to tell someone that he
or she is no more needed. I never really felt it until two days ago.
The contracts for the employees in the project, in which I am
doing my internship, are ending. The project director has the responsibility to
extend their contracts based on their performance. The rest of the staff were
going to get an extension but there was one employee whose contract was not
going to be extended due to his lack of performance. The project director asked
me to inform him and talk to him about the decision. I tried my best but I
could not convince him that his performance was not good neither I could assure
him that he will find a job somewhere else. He was really disappointed. Though
it was due to his own fault, one still feels the pain when the other one is
losing his job. But what we can do, someone has to make the call.
Regards,
Javid
I can't imagine how tough that must have been; I'm surprised the director didn't do it himself.
ReplyDeleteJordache,
DeleteIt was really tough. I could not convince him. I wrote about the decision that has been taken in my next blog. Thanks.
