Decision on the staff termination

Good Morning!

I just wanted to update on what I have done with the person that I had inform about his termination.
First thing, I am sorry for writing George Clooney’s name as John Clooney. I meant the first one. Anyways, I had a final meeting with the person yesterday. He did not accept what I was telling him. He was saying that he has done everything possible for an employee. He was claiming that he has worked long hours to finish his tasks. He has worked at home but he tried to meet deadlines. He also was arguing that he was alone in the department and there was not support. This point was somehow valid. I had to report it back to the director. We talked about the issue for a while and we agreed on the following.

We will give him a three months contract. He will have it as a probationary period. In addition, he will get a specific ToR with specific goals to achieve for this period. He will be required to meet precise criteria to complete his assignments. In addition, his every mistake and sluggishness would be noted.  Meanwhile, he promised that he will do everything to complete his assignments as requested. However, if still the management is not happy with his performance, he will leave his job without any complaint at the end of the third month.
I am not sure if this was a right decision but that’s what I did. According to rationale theory, people are rationale. They decide based on available information in a specific time. Therefore, I think I made a rationale decision.

Regards,
Javid
